So I've taken a bit of a break from blogging, but for this year's pre-New Year's Resolution, I'm going to start back up. This time I will write once a week. Promise. Pinky-swear. Cross my heart and hope to die.
Here are my reasons:
1. Someone, not sure who so let's credit either Winston Churchill or Chuck Norris, said that if you want to be a writer, you gotta write every day. I'm writing every single day, but I'm not sure how much writing nut-graphs is helping my story-telling skills.
2. Last night I attended a book talk by the one and only Mr. Gay Talese (who will star in his own post later) and I'm inspired to write again.
3. Maybe writing will help me become a more reflective person. Then again, maybe not.
3.1. I am kind of embarrassed by my earlier entries and need to push it out of sight by adding more entries.
4. Life is pretty interesting right now and I might never live like this again.
5. During the summer, when I was living in Fredericksburg, which is as close to the Deep South as I have ever gotten, I got a very good bit of advice from someone who is older and wiser than I am.
This man, who is the father of two wonderful adult daughters, told me that when he started working with prison inmates way back in the day, he used to keep a journal. He said all young people ought to keep a journal. Not because someday you might be famous and the historians will need primary material.
Mr. Pearlman said he would never let anyone else read this journal. It was for his eyes only. The reason he told me I ought to keep a journal was because he said someday, when I'm older I'll be able to remember how fresh and raw things were at the beginning. To keep me from getting too blase.
